Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Investment and head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani said five more foreign companies are hoping to invest a total of Rp2.51 trillion (US$165 million) in the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara.

One of them is Singapore's Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, which is looking to invest Rp987.35 billion (USD1= around Rp15,190) to build a 50-megawatt (MW) solar panel at IKN.

"The investment value of the other four companies combined is around USD100 million," Roeslani disclosed on Tuesday.

Singaporean educational company Raffles Education Limited is also keen to invest in the IKN, the minister said. An institution from Australia has also shown interest in investing in the education sector.

Meanwhile, a Russian company is hoping to build a mixed-use building and a Chinese company is interested in constructing a shopping center at IKN, he informed. Roeslani said that the entry of foreign investment at IKN shows that state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and private investors can work side-by-side without competing with each other.

According to him, tapping the large potential for economic development in Indonesia requires a lot of investment from both SOEs and the private sector.

"As long as it follows the regulations, it can complement each other. We have quite a promising economic development. Do not worry about that," he emphasized.

He informed that most investors are leaning towards clean energy development. However, development projects in Indonesia still rarely use clean energy in the entire process (end-to-end). Roeslani said that the government is currently encouraging more clean energy-based development to attract green investment.

"We are pushing clean energy-based development and aiming for carbon neutral investment," he added.

Regarding investment at IKN, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) earlier informed there are around 493 plots of land at IKN that would be offered to private investors. He said that the plots could later be utilized for hotels, offices, and a trade center.
