Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PPMI) Abdul Kadir Karding has asked Indonesian migrant workers to work well and serve as ambassadors of the nation while sending off 429 workers to South Korea under a government-to-government scheme.

"I ask all of you to not only work, but also to be ambassadors of the nation, ambassadors of our country. We must show that Indonesia has good morals, good attitudes, high discipline, and good work ethics," he said during the departure ceremony for the workers here on Monday.

The minister advised the workers, scheduled to leave for South Korea on Monday night, to comply with the laws and regulations in force in their country of employment.

To protect themselves while working, the Indonesian migrant workers must understand how to report security and safety concerns to the Indonesian authorities in South Korea, Minister Karding said.

"You all have to understand where to report, who to contact if something happens to an individual or a group," he added.

He also advised workers to work well because their performance would influence employers' assessment of Indonesian workers.

They were also asked to adapt to the culture of South Korea, which demands high discipline.

In addition, they were urged to manage their income by making a good financial plan.

Karding also asked the workers to improve their quality through formal education since education is important to support productivity.

The workers were also encouraged to take the benefit of the overseas job opportunity by enriching their work experience and gaining new skills that can be utilized in the future, when they return to Indonesia.
