Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta acting governor Heru Budi Hartono met with the Governor of New South Wales, Australia, Margaret Beazley, to discuss cooperation in turning Jakarta into a global-scale business city after it sheds its national capital status.
"The meeting (today) discussed education, educational cooperation, tourism, culture, the creative economy, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)," Hartono informed at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday.
The cooperative relationship between the governments of Jakarta and New South Wales has existed since 1994 and resulted in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was renewed for five more years in 2022.
"New South Wales is one of the 23 sister cities that have collaborated with Jakarta in several fields such as education, tourism, culture, creative economy, MSMEs, and digital technology," he said.
He also revealed that representatives of the Jakarta provincial government will visit New South Wales in October 2023 to showcase Jakarta’s culture.
Meanwhile, head of the Jakarta Regional Secretariat Cooperation Bureau, Marulina Dewi Mutiara, said that the cooperation between the governments of Jakarta and New South Wales has resulted in mutually beneficial cooperation for each city.
"We have collaborated with New South Wales in the form of teachers training to present their teaching materials since education nowadays requires virtual teaching. New South Wales owns a Canva application that can be useful for our teachers," she said.

Jakarta is also a model for New South Wales in developing services for persons living with disabilities, she added. The New South Wales government sent its experts in 2018 to study services implemented for persons with disabilities at several regional general hospitals (RSUDs) in Jakarta.
"In the future, we will strengthen this cooperation. We know that New South Wales has many well-known universities. There are eleven universities and six of them have world-class scores. They will hold educational exhibitions and we will socialize them to our students. There might be scholarships and others," Mutiara said.
