Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) promoted the Peaceful General Election declaration to the younger generation, comprising members of the Generation Z, in Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
According to the ministry's official statement received here on Saturday, Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi led the declaration of the peaceful General Election with the youths in Makassar.
In the declaration, he invited them to exercise their voting rights and avoid hoaxes and identity politics.
"We are sincerely committed to maintaining the continuity of democracy, prioritizing rightful information, and rejecting identity politics and sensitive issues. (We are) determined to maintain the sovereignty and unity of the nation above all differences," Setiadi affirmed.
Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Bahtiar Baharuddin and Makassar Mayor Moh. Ramdhan Pomanto were present at the event. On the same occasion, Setiadi appealed to the public, especially first-time voters, to be prudent in consuming social media, as content on those platforms can give rise to vulnerable situations during the 2024 election.
He stated that the election, which is a process of choosing leaders, needs to be supported by the participation of every citizen. He underscored the need for all citizens to exercise their voting rights considering that Indonesia is a democratic country.
"First-time voters must not be absent and should come to the polling stations on (February) 14. You must invite your friends! The election is the right of the people, the people's sovereignty, so let us use that right, so that on February 14, 2024, people will flock to the polling stations," Setiadi remarked.
