RI to set up 100 Red and White fisheries villages in 4 months

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry is planning to establish 100 Red and White fisheries villages within the next four months to push community empowerment-based development in the country’s coastal regions.Trian Yunanda, an expert staff on economic, social, and cultural affairs to the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister, disclosed the target during the “Morning Sea” event here on Monday.

“Our team assumes that with a comprehensive plan, we may be able to achieve the target,” Yunanda said, adding that the ministry will invite its officers from priority coastal areas to discuss the matter.

The meeting, which will take place soon, will discuss a detailed design of the 100 integrated and productive Red and White fisheries villages, he informed.

The ministry has set the target of building 1,100 Red and White fisheries villages by 2027 to improve the economy and prosperity of coastal communities, Yunanda said.

Currently, the ministry is piloting a fisheries village project in Kampung Nelayan Modern (Kalamo) Samber-Binyeri, Biak Numfor district, Papua province, he disclosed.

“This village can be replicated to be a good example of a Red and White fisheries village all over Indonesia,” he added.
