Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati said the 10th National Congress of the Indonesian Gynecological Endoscopy Society (IGES) event held in Bali is expected to produce strategies to improve reproductive health services.

"I really support and appreciate this activity. I hope that this event would produce strategies regarding reproductive health services," he noted in a written statement received here, Friday. The deputy governor has officially opened the event on Thursday, held in conjunction with the 35th International Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy on May 24-27, 2023.

According to Sukawati, the issue of reproductive health is important since it has a broad impact and involves various aspects of life. Moreover, women's health is a parameter of the state's ability to provide health services to the community, he affirmed.

"Maternal death is still a major challenge in the world, including in Indonesia. One of the outcomes of the 2020-2024 RPJMN (national medium-term development plan) in the health sector is improving the health of mothers, children, family planning, and reproductive health," Sukawati remarked.

He is also aware that currently, technology and medical devices to support surgical procedures are developing at a rapid pace. Existing technology that allows surgery to be conducted in a minimally invasive manner that provides benefits for both the doctor and the patient, includes gynecological endoscopy, which he had hoped for earlier.

Meanwhile, President of the Indonesian Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor Yudi Mulyana Hidayat, stated that gynecological endoscopy is a surgical practice that helps diagnose the most common female disorders, such as scant vaginal bleeding, infertility problems, and endometrial polyps or non-cancerous growths on the inner uterine wall.

“It uses a small, slim optical device to diagnose the problem. Hence, this congress will discuss the matter related to gynecological endoscopy technology, endoscopy treatment, and other issues," he explained.

On that occasion, Professor Hidayat also said that the 10th IGES Congress in Bali was also combined with the Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (ISGE) in which participants came from several Asian, African, and other countries.
