Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, is determined to increase oil production to 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) in the Rokan Block in Riau, which is now fully managed by state-run company Pertamina.

Previously, when Chevron managed the Rokan Block, it produced 130,000 bpd. Since Pertamina took over, the block’s oil production has risen to 162,000 bpd.

Jokowi made this announcement in a statement issued by his office in Jakarta on Saturday.

Jokowi, along with other high-ranking officials, gathered in Dumai, Riau, to commemorate the inception of Pancasila, Indonesia’s state philosophy. He emphasized that the country’s achievement in increasing oil production at the block was a significant reason for celebrating Pancasila in the city.

“Since the state assumed control of the block’s operations, its oil production has surged. This is a positive development,” he stated.

Jokowi further called for an expansion of Rokan Block’s production capacity, setting a target of exceeding 200,000 bpd.

Regarding the strategy to achieve this goal, Jokowi revealed that Pertamina has adopted a new technology. Currently implemented at one well, this technology has significantly multiplied production.

"This will be applied to other selected wells to further enhance production," he added.

Jokowi also emphasized that exploration using the new technology will continue throughout this year, with additional new wells earmarked for exploration next year.

"By next year, we aim to apply it to two or three wells," he remarked.
