Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung ensured that his ministry will form the Directorate General of Law Enforcement in 2025 to eradicate illegal mining in Indonesia.
"There will be the Directorate General of Law Enforcement to ensure all mining activities are legal and meet the legal provisions," he remarked when contacted by ANTARA here on Friday.
According to Tanjung, the new directorate general is formed to improve governance in Indonesia's mining sector. In addition, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources seeks regulatory simplification, transparency, and legal certainty for business players in the mining sector.
"We will digitize the existing services as well as have a tracking system to find out the extent of the completion of licensing and services in the directorate general units at the ministry," he remarked.

Earlier, in Jakarta on Monday (November 25, 2024), Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that officials from the National Police (Polri), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and prosecutors will lead the Directorate General of Law Enforcement.
He pointed out that mining management in Indonesia still lacks transparency due to the slow process of issuing reports regarding the work plan and budget for mineral and coal mining business activities.

With the establishment of a new directorate within the ministry, Lahadalia expressed hope that the directorate general would effectively address issues related to mining business permits and enhance the transparency of mining governance in Indonesia.
He also called on business stakeholders to refrain from utilizing consultant services while obtaining permits in the mineral and coal sectors to prevent any irregularities.
