Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry will soon invite Apple representatives to visit Indonesia to discuss the settlement of the company's remaining investment commitment for 2023 as well as its new investment proposal for 2024–2026.

"The ministry's director general of ILMATE (metal, machinery, transportation equipment, and electronics industry) will immediately send an e-mail to summon Apple here," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that negotiations with the American technology major are needed to discuss the remaining investment commitment of Apple for 2023, which is US$10 million, as well as the new investment proposal worth US$100 million for the next three years.

The minister advised Apple to immediately establish a production facility or factory in Indonesia so that it does not need to submit an investment proposal every three years.

In addition, the Indonesian government is currently discussing the revision of a ministerial regulation concerning provisions and procedures for calculating the value of domestic component levels of cellular phones, handheld computers, and tablet computers, considering the changing landscape of those industries and upholding the principle of fair investment.

Minister Kartasasmita earlier said that as per a technocratic assessment conducted by the government, the US$100 million investment proposal submitted by Apple did not meet the four aspects of fairness.

He said that the four aspects included a comparison of Apple's investments in other countries and Indonesia; a comparison of investments in other brands of mobile phones, handheld computers, and tablets in the country; the creation of added value and state revenue; as well as the creation of jobs from the realization of the resulting investment.
