Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto has said that the construction of the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) arenas in North Sumatra is proceeding well.

He delivered the remarks after inspecting a number of PON arenas at the North Sumatra Sports Center in Sena village, Deli Serdang district, North Sumatra, on Wednesday."Everything in the PON implementation can run according to the expectations," Tjahjanto added.

During the inspection, the minister —who was accompanied by acting governor of North Sumatra, Agus Fatoni, and the local PON committee— said he expected all PON facilities in the region to be completed on target.

Tjahjanto urged local governments and stakeholders to improve coordination so that the construction of sports facilities can run successfully.

"The progress of the arena construction is going very well, almost complete. We are optimistic that all infrastructure will be completed on time. This is our shared responsibility," he said.

Meanwhile, Fatoni said that the development of the North Sumatra Main Stadium has reached 71.86 percent and the Indoor Badminton arena has entered the final stage of construction.

"The stadium's development is progressing well, even faster than the target. We will finish it in July (2024) and can test it in early August," Fatoni added.

He assured that the arenas for the 21st PON, which will be held from September 8–20, 2024, will be completed on time.

"Other arenas such as swimming pools, bowling, and others, are almost finished, too. We are also in the midst of building the supporting facilities," he informed.

This year is the first time that PON will be held in two provinces. At least 38 provinces, including the Papuan new autonomous regions (DOBs) and the Nusantara national capital (defile status), will participate in the event.
